Dear RERITERs,
Welcome to the newsletter of the Reproducible Research in Transportation (RERITE) working group. We’ll use this space to share brief updates, highlight opportunities to collaborate, and recognize the contributions that move our work forward. The goal is to keep it lightweight, useful, and easy to scan.
What we’ve been working on
This collection in European Transport Research Review aims to highlight the importance of reproducibility in transportation research, fostering advancements and enhancing the credibility of scientific findings. Three studies are already published, while others have been accepted recently or are still under review.
Open Science Workshop at IEEE IV 2026
In May, RERITE celebrated open datasets, benchmarks, and testbeds at the IV Symposium held in Detroit, MI. The workshop gathered researchers to share the latest research infrastructure and discuss where the field needs to go. One theme that came up is the need for standards to combat the heterogeneity of transportation settings. Professor Henry Liu, the General Chair of IV 2026 and the director of MCity and UMTRI at the University of Michigan, openly recognized that open science is “really needed in transportation” and commends RERITE’s efforts.
What’s coming up
IEEE ITSC 2026 Workshop (15 September 2026) - The Trajectory Data Camp 2026 workshop, co-organized by RERITE, brings together leading researchers and practitioners working on trajectory data collection, analytics, and real-world ITS applications. The goal is to translate data into safer and more efficient transportation systems.
hEART 2026 Lecture (28 September 2026) - A lecture dedicated to reproducible research in transportation will be given during the PhD school. The objectives are (1) to introduce the fundamental concepts of reproducible research, (2) to guide the documentation of data and projects, and (3) to encourage collaboration within the transportation community.
hEART 2026 Prize (September 29 - October 1, 2026) – This prize recognizes short papers (2000–3000 words) that have been accepted for presentation at hEART 2026 and submit reproducible data, code, and/or models to RERITE. To participate, please fill out the Google Form by 31 July 2026.
Ways to get involved
Call for interest: special issue on “Evaluations & datasets for transportation research”
We are collecting needs and wish lists in preparation of two special issues that will be published on Transportation Research: Part C (TRC) and IEEE Transactions on Intelligent Transportation Systems (T-ITS). Please fill out this Google form by 30 September 2026.
Call for nominations: your papers for reproducibility student projects
As part of our initiative to promote transparency and reproducibility in transportation research, we are offering a series of Master’s projects focused on reproducing influential papers. If you would like to nominate one of your papers for reproducibility, please fill out this Google form.
Call for volunteers
We’re looking for volunteers to support several initiatives across communications, data, and open science. If you are interested in any of the roles listed below, please fill out this Google form.
Communication & Content - Website Manager - Familiarity with basic design in HTML to maintain site updates, fix broken links and improve layout. - Digital Content Manager – Familiarity with graphic design and copywriting to assist with social media calendars and newsletter drafts.
Data & Research Support - Data & ML Specialists – Benchmark Datasets – Familiarity with Python, data cleaning, and ML basics to help curate and standardize benchmark datasets for the repository. - Data & ML Specialists – Scientific Study – Familiarity with Python and data analysis to contribute to the next study on measuring reproducibility.
